How to choose DTF film? Hot peel or cold peel? Single matt or double matt?

DTF film, short for Direct-to-Film, is a specialized printing medium used in the garment decoration industry for creating detailed and vibrant designs on various fabrics. This printing method is gaining popularity as an alternative to traditional printing techniques like screen printing and direct-to-garment (DTG) printing.

Here are some details you want to know about DTF film.

HOT & COLD PEEL

DTF film has hot peel and cold peel. When working with DTF (Direct-to-Film) printing, both hot peel and cold peel transfer methods have their own advantages and are suitable for different printing applications. The choice between hot peel and cold peel largely depends on the specific requirements of the design, the type of fabric being used, and personal preference. Here’s a breakdown of the characteristics of both hot peel and cold peel methods:

Hot peel transfers are generally quicker to apply than cold peel transfers since the transfer film is peeled off immediately after heat pressing. Hot peel transfers are ideal for fabrics that can withstand heat and pressure without getting damaged or deformed.

Cold peel transfers are suitable for a wider range of fabrics, including delicate or heat-sensitive materials that could be affected by the heat from hot peel transfers. The delayed peeling process allows the fabric to cool down before removing the transfer film, reducing the risk of accidental smudging or distortions.

SINGLE MATT & DOUBLE MATT

Many clients want to know the difference between single matt and double matt. Which is better for you? The decision often depends on the specific purpose you are aiming for in your project. Here are some considerations for both finishes to help you determine which might be better suited to your needs.

Single Matte:

Simplicity: One site is matt and one site is glossy, so you easily know which site is the printing side.

Economic: Single matte DTF film is often favored for a better price.

Double Matte:

Enhanced Texture: Both sides are matt. It offers a subtle texture that provides friction when printing so that the printing position will not move easily. It also looks more tactile and luxurious.

Easy to rewind: The matte texture is more conducive to rolling.

In China, at least 50+ factories are producing DTF films. There are no unified production and quality control standards, so the quality is also uneven.

Here are some factors to keep in mind when choosing DTF film.

  1. Resolution and Print Quality: Look for DTF film that offers high resolution and excellent print quality.
  2. Compatibility: Ensure that the DTF film you choose is compatible with your printing setup, including your printer and inks. Some films may work better with specific printers or ink types, so check for compatibility to achieve optimal results.
  3. Durability: Choose DTF film that is durable and resistant to factors like scratches, water damage, and UV fading. This ensures that your prints remain vibrant and long-lasting, making them suitable for a variety of applications.
  4. Ease of Use: Opt for DTF film that is easy to work with and offers good adhesion to the substrate. Easy-to-use film can help streamline your printing process and deliver consistent results.
  5. Environmental Considerations: If sustainability is a priority for you, look for DTF film that is environmentally friendly and meets certain eco-friendly standards. This can include factors like recyclability and eco-friendly materials.
  6. Cost-Effectiveness: Balance the quality of the DTF film with its cost. While it’s important to choose high-quality film, also consider your budget and select a film that offers a good balance of quality and affordability for your printing needs.

By considering these factors and doing some research, you can select DTF film that meets your specific requirements in terms of print quality, durability, compatibility, ease of use, finish options, environmental considerations, and cost-effectiveness. Experimenting with different types of DTF film and testing them with your printer setup can also help you determine which film works best for your printing needs
